Water Ski Ropes

Selecting and buying water ski ropes are essential because it is the material that attaches and secures the skier to the boat. The towrope length for standard water skiing is 70 feet and 75 feet if you include the length of the handle. Water ski ropes are usually made from polypropylene material that is known to stretch in two to three percent from the original length of the rope under usual skiing load.

In buying a water ski ropes, choose the ropes that are extremely durable and slightly elastic. This feature of the rope will be able to give the skier more security as the skier changes speeds and makes turns or maneuvers.

The give in the rope also absorbs the shock of cutting through the boat wake as the skier crosses from side to another side. It is recommended to choose a rope that is one-quarter-inch diamond braid polyethylene or polypropylene that is capable of breaking strength of more than 800 pounds.

A standard water ski rope or towrope can have up to ten colored section or take-offs. These take-offs allow for shortening or lengthening the rope from one attachment loop to the next. With feature in skiing rope, the skier can just merely shorten the rope into one or more take-off loops to be able to be near or get close to the boat.

It is also recommended to buy a rope that features a color scheme for its easy spotting under any water condition. It would be nice to purchase a water ski rope that includes a rope keeper. This rope keeper can provide a tangle-free storage of your rope.
