Tips On Transporting Water Skis

— October 17, 2007

Water skiing is indeed a fun sport but if there is one stressful aspect in this sport, it is the shipping or transporting of our water ski to a far city. It is non uncommon to hear stories of broken skis due to its improper handling during shipping.

And for novice water skiers, breaking a ski is hard on the pocket and of course, if you do not have any back-up ski, you can not participate in the tournament or practice anymore. So to prevent these bad circumstances from happening, you need to ensure that you pack your water skis properly.

When you will travel by plane or you need to send your skis through shipping / courier; treat them as fragile items and see to it that you use a study packaging material.  The best packaging for water ski shipping is the original box of the skis. If you don’t have this, you may get one from the nearest water ski dealer in your place.

If the original water ski packaging is not available, just assemble one using any thick boxes and packaging tapes. Be sure that you pad the water ski inside by adding bubble wrap or news paper that will act as “shock absorber” when your water ski package has been dropped, stepped on or placed under heavier stuffs.  And if possible, place a “fragile” sign or “handle with care sign” on your water ski package to inform the shipping personnel that there is a breakable item inside.
