The Importance of Boat Driver In A Skiing Team
A skiing team is composed of a skier, a boat driver and an observer. The focal point of any skiing team is the skier, in fact he or she is the only person mentioned during announcements and press releases. But joining any tournament requires a boat driver and an observer. And I believed that the boat driver is equally important as the skier.
And being a driver is not an easy job. It is the driver’s responsibility to read the body movement of the skier and to determine whether he should accelerate or not. The driver just like the skier needs to engage in a healthy living and regular exercise. The driver should be intelligent enough to move and think just like the skier.
A skier no matter how good he or she may be will find it difficult to win if he or she does not have a fast and reliable boat driver. A good boat driver is said to be a person who after few competitions you feel that you barely ever have to signal.
A good driver allows the skier to concentrate on the water as if he does not need to communicate with his driver anymore because the driver already knew the movement of the skier and their way to the course. And I guess this is indeed true, because I noticed that professional skiers who compete in a tournament barely made any hand signal with their drivers.
And the importance of boat drivers is clearly emphasized in every water skiing organization. In fact, the USA Water Ski has a program that is designed to professionally train boat drivers.
