The Don’ts of Slalom Skiing

— December 13, 2006

Novice slalom skiers are often committing several mistakes that somehow affect their skiing performance. Common practices that are don’ts of slalom skiing are mentioned below.

Do not pull very hard when crossing the wakes because it only generates unnecessary speed that causes you to bend your arms. And bended arms will surely decrease your lean and angle. Also, you should not ski very wide. Remember that the buoy must go underneath your ankle

Do not turn your head out, look across the lake in the pull or rotate your upper body because these will cause you to get out of position that will in turn causes a setback in the edge change which in turn causes loose course problems after the buoy.

And you should not lean as well because leaning also generates unnecessary speed and movement. Instead, reach down forward so that you can put more weight on the front of the ski and get easier turns.
