— July 22, 2009

Kim Lumley of Great Britain grabbed the Women’s Category in the recently concluded Catalina Water Ski Race held at Long Beach California for the 7th time. This year, she amazingly completed 3rd overall amongst the Men. She finished the race in 1 hour 4 seconds which is said to be only 52 seconds  short in the all time record for the event.

Lumley beat the all-time Women’s record by 5 minutes in the 61st running of the Catalina Water Ski Race. She achieved speeds of almost 100mph using 45-foot Miami Vice style powerboat that let her finish the race 3rd overall amongst the Men. Robbie Llewellyn commented that Kim Lumley is now the fastest women in world famous water ski race.

On the other hand, the former World Champion Todd Haig from the USA won the overall for the 9th time!  The concluded water ski race is joined by more than 100 competitors who started at the same time in the L.A. Harbor. They ski through the harbor entrance which is 35 miles to Catalina Islands and then back skiing for a total of 70 miles.
